Learning how to swim in a country full of water is very important. Not only for our personal safety, but also for our leisure. Swimming is a fun and healthy sport. That is why it is wise that children learn to swim at a young age. But also adults can learn how to swim in our club.
From the age of 5 a child can take part in swimming lessons in the Eindhoven lifesaving club (ERB). We start with making the child free from fear of water: slowly get accustomed to the water in a shallow pool. Our instructors will take good care of a feeling of safety and well-being in the water. The lessons are about 45 minutes long and take place in de pools of ‘De Tongelreep’ (Eindhoven South) or ‘Ir. Ottenbad’ (Eindhoven North). There is room for lessons for adults.
After the child has found pleasure and safety in the water, the preparation for the ‘A-certificate’ starts. After achieving this first certificate, it is possible to go on for the ‘B-‘ and ‘C-certificate’. We are a club with an official licence for ‘Zwem ABC’, a national recognised and certificated course in learning how to swim. This leads to the official certificates A-B-C.
Lifesaving lessons
After gaining the B or C certificate the Eindhoven lifesaving club offers the possibilities to gain the merits for lifesaving education. We start with series of merits for water lifesaving. You learn how to be safe in the water yourself and after that to save others in fear of drowning. Of course fun and pleasure are still very important in these courses.
This is also the phase (knowing how to swim) in which adults can step in. The members are trained in performing a rescue with lifesaving aids like a rescue tube or a rescue line. Following that it is possible to adapt all that is learned in lifesaving in SERC competitions. Here a competitor is challenged to act as part of a team at a water incident. The goal is to bring as many victims as possible to safety in a short time. It is also possible to become part of our lifeguarding team, that takes care of safety in and around the water at events.
During swimming lessons there is a permanent instructor linked to the group on which all can rely. When going on to another level, the instructor might change. All our staff are volunteers and they are certified by a governmental statement of good behaviour.
